Vio con Dioszilla
Vio con Dioszilla is a huge 42" x 48" linocut, printed on 350 gsm Hahnemuehle paper.
In April 2018, printmaker Eric Rewitzer created this print during a two week artist residency at Zopilote Heliografica Nacional in Mexico City.
Mexico has a long tradition of using print for political commentary, and upon arrival into its beautiful, dynamic capital city, the absurdity of the wall became acute. Referencing his popular Godzilla iconography, Eric conceived Godzilla holding the Angel of Independence, furiously standing up for Mexico as it takes down the wall and those who would build it. The carving took six straight days of 8-10 hour sessions, and once done, an extremely limited edition of 12 prints was created in Mexico City.
