Outer Sunset Shopping, Dining, and Drinking Guide
Eat, Drink, and Shop Local.
After enjoying your time here at 3 Fish Studios, we thought you might want to explore the other local businesses in the area. So here is our short (and growing) list of our favorite places to shop, dine, and imbibe here in our cozy part of the City.
1. 3 Fish Studios
The artistic home of Annie Galvin and Eric Rewitzer, painter and printmaker, husband and wife. Browse their eclectic collection of California-themed artwork.
2. The Last Straw
No website, no social media, nothing but beautifully curated jewelry and home goods. Now in business for 40+ years, the owner, Marge, will remind you of your favorite grandmother. Her gift boxes and wrapping are deluxe, too. Right across the street from our studio.
3. Mollusk Surf Shop
Our neighbors on the block sell a lot more than surfboards! Great books, clothing, and art shows are always part of their offerings. And their gift boxes shaped like surf-mobiles are perfect.
4. Avenues Dry Goods
On Irving Street between 42nd and 43rd, our friends Eve and Tim run a quirky, curated shop, chock full of vintage items, contemporary t-shirts, and assorted home goods. Check them out!
5. Swell Bicycles
Quite possibly the nicest and kindest bike shop in the City. Stop in and see their selection and meet this great group of lads.
6. General Store
This is the quiet and beautiful baby sister to the General Store on Judah. Beautiful home goods in a beach chic environment.
7. Hook Fish Co.
A great place to begin or end your visit to the area. We see the fresh fish delivered here every morning, and the lines form every afternoon. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious. We recommend the poke, especially if Chef Luke is in the house.
8. Black Bird Bookstore
So many great books for all ages, curated by people who love to read. A must stop for the book-lover on your list.
9. Case for Making
Not too many art supply shops can claim they make their own watercolors! But CFM does that, and more. Check out their beautiful shop full of supplies and other charming gifts for the art lover in everyone.
10. General Store
Gorgeous design. Lovely environment. Inspired choices. A must stop while you are in the neighborhood!
No place better to get the vibe of our neighborhood. Beautiful sit-down restaurant that radiates warmth. Try the hot cider (spiked or not), the grilled cheese sandwich, and their soup. Or anything from their delicious menu. Great place to grab a cocktail, too.
Perfect spot for vegan fare and acai bowls.
13 - 14. Beachside Cafe and Java Beach
These sister restaurants are great places to grab a delicious bagel or more substantial fare (our favorite is the polenta) in addition to a delicious cup of coffee.
15. Woods Outbound
A local watering hole, featuring micro-brew beers, homemade empanadas, and fresh local art on the walls.
16. Trouble Coffee
Great coffee, and legendary cinnamon toast.
17. Field Theory
An interior design studio with a small shop, selling a small collection of beautiful objects for you home. Open during the weekends and by appointment.
18. The Great Highway Gallery
A fantastic local gallery featuring local art, run by one of the nicest guys this side of town. Check in with John and see his always changing exhibits by some of the best contemporary artists anywhere in San Francisco.
This is the original Andytown location, and still our favorite. Grab one of their sublime lattes and a fresh baked scone and have a talk with one of the locals. Everyone is in a good mood here.
A delightful selection of home goods, artwork, plants, and clothing in a warm, inviting shop.
21. Devil’s Teeth Bakery
Voted the best Breakfast Sandwich in San Francisco. Need we say more? Their cinnamon roles are the bomb, too, as is their wide selection of other baked goods.
22. Pizza Place on Noriega
Who doesn’t love a tasty slice? This place delivers - literally and figuratively! Salads, cold beers, and other goodies round out the menu for this neighborhood fave.
23. Tunnel Records
An old-school records shop, with racks full of favorites you know and new favorites to discover. Plus they have a carefully chosen selection of jewelry and beach goods.
24. Avenues San Francisco
Surfboards and musubi. I mean, does it get any more Ocean Beach than this?
25. Underdogs Too
Craving the perfect taco? Or California burrito (that means it has french fries in it, folks) This is your place. Get your taco Nick’s Way and don’t forget to try the habanero salsa (in moderation - it will melt your face!)
European-style cafe, perfect for avocado toast and picnic fixins for your day at the beach.
27. The Riptide
San Francisco’s favorite dive bar, and our favorite pint of Guinness this side of town. Always a convivial local crowd, with the nicest bartenders and an authentic Irish pour.
When you crave the perfect martini, stop here. Gin with seaweed-infused vermouth = Amazing. Stylish and intimate environment with craftspeople behind the bar.
And there you have it! If you want a printed map, stop into our shop and we'll happily give you one. And a cup of coffee!
Thanks so much for supporting small business. We all hope to see you soon!
