Ports

Ports

Growing up on the industrial shores of the Great Lakes, Eric developed an early fascination with ships.  The huge ore carries appear in silhouette against the horizon, then gracefully maneuver through the tight channels into the port towns of West Michigan, these monsters of the lakes were a constant presence in his childhood.

When Eric moved to California in the 80s, the scale and scope of the shipping industry awaited him, with the Port of Oakland just a bridge away from his home in San Francisco.   The containers carried not only cargo, but a certain aesthetic.  Stacks of colors on ships, in yards, and on trucks  - casting shadows, filling space with their colorful geometry.

Based on vantage points from the air, sea, and ground, this collection of prints celebrate that fascination.
